LAB TALK: Redefining Neurodiversity: Designing Practical Solutions Through Lived Experiences - Dr Faith Matcham, University of Sussex
A talk from the wonderful Faith Matcham about the new book she co-edited about rethinking how we view neurodiversity and what comes under that umbrella.

I enjoyed how Faith outlined the need to look at the traits of neurodiversity and not just the diagnosis due to the large overlap of challenges between the group, it made me reconfigure how I separated the conditions in my head. I had not properly considered what came under the neurodiverse umbrella and realised now all the variance that can be presented. The description of the dual continuum model also separated the idea of having to fully get rid of symptom burden to have good wellbeing and realise that flourishing does not necessarily need there to be no burden. I appreciated how Faith delivered the talk with the emphasis of language and its impact, focusing on the nuance around not being able to have universal language to navigate this society. It will definitely make me take account of my language and also what I picture as the neurodiverse community! - Esme
