Autism Reading Club: Are Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asexuality connected? – (Attanasio et al, 2021)
Our first club event was very successful, with a good turnout of students, lots of reading, highlighting and discussion!
We gave time for the students to read a section with guiding questions and highlight parts that interested them. Then we discussed the section with a rehashing of the questions. Our conclusions on the paper as a whole were that there could be a link but there needs to be more research in total, and especially in social aspects and an in-depth breakdown of asexuality. It was a very intriguing paper bringing together lots of research that sparked interesting discussions and analysis of the research methods.

“The choice of article was both engaging and entertaining. The discussions around the topic of asexuality were thought-provoking, highlighting the urgent need for further, scientifically backed research rather than assumptions. Esme summarised the article in an easy-to-understand way and provided interesting prompts that encouraged audience engagement.”
“Very engaging reading group on a very under-studied group of people! Esme managed to present the merits and limitations of the study as well as giving an understanding of the state of research around Asexuality.”
